Hi Guys

I have just changed the rear cog on my single speed bike from an 18t to a 16t.

It seems to ride ok but should I be shortening the chain as well?

Thanks

Do you have vertical or horizontal dropouts?

If you pulled the wheel further back in horizontal dropouts till the chain is tight you'be fine.

It has vertical dropouts and as such i am using a chain tensioner.

    (See pic in my sig)

    Thanks

If you don't have horizontal drop outs but are getting an acceptable tension with a SS chain device, I would leave it as it will make it simpler if you ever decide to go back to the 18 tooth cog in future.

    I'd use a chain tensioner if you aren't (I can't see a picture)

And either way, I find about quarter of an inch of slack is good. (should be able to pull it up and down 1/4 of an inch)
