What Colour?

Hello, I am Ollie and I am new to the forum. I have recently got an old Saracen X-ray jump bike and I would like to do it up again. I have stripped the frame and I was wondering what colour you think would go well with it. I know you are all thinking its up to you but I am stuck between Light Fluorescent green or orange. The frame is a very bulky frame with a large boxy down tube. Also If you could recommend what paint types to use that would be great!
Thanks, Ollie.
Thanks, Ollie.

The light green is really appealing to me now. Would this paint be good if not could you recommend me some please? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/flourescent-green ... _500wt_922DMR Trailstar0

If you know how to apply it correctly, it will be fine.
You could send it away to get powder coated, is about 40 quid or so.
But the polish and lacquer option is the cheapest, looks great (lacquer on the decals too) and saves amazingly about 1/3rd lb in weight lol.0 -

Although I'd lean towards a brushed finish to the frame rather than polished,
and that has the bonus of providing a better key for the lacquer to adhere to0 -
True! Shiny Zaskars though, mmmm......0

My old nextdoor neighbour bought an old Ford XR3i that was a complete wreck and he spent months doing the welding and sourcing parts, i did all the filler work as i worked in a bodyshop and offered to do the spray job for £300 + paint, he pulled his face and decided that he'd bush paint it  it looked revolting and he hadn't used enough hardener so even a month later it wasn't fully dry
Guess what i'm saying is pay a professional to do it for you as you know it'll be right first timeWhat if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? What if to get to heaven, you had to brave hell? What if everything you've ever wanted cost you everything you've ever achieved? Would you still go there?0 -

Metal finishes
I'm talking brushed alloy as opposed to polished alloy, I assumed the lacquer would be properly sprayed on.......0 -

I dont think I have the equipment or money to give it a proffesional finnish so I am just going to spray it myself. I was just wondering what paints would bet suit it and adhere best. I do like the look of the bare aluminum though.DMR Trailstar0

If you go down the paint or bare metal lacquered finish it'd probably cost around £20 for meterials but given the option i'd probably save a little extra cash and go down the powder coat route.
How about this for an idea? Go for the bare metal with the lacquer done by a pro but add green/blue/gold glitter to the lacquer it'd look pretty amazing 8)What if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? Your luring me into the bare metal finnish now... I've used a disk thing on my grinder to strip it down but its really hard to get into the small places so i was just going to just paint it but where i have done it looks quite nice actually. I'll try some more tomorrow and if it looks nice I may keep it like that.DMR Trailstar0

I heard it is rather hard to do a paint job yourself, i'd be more inclined to get a pro to do it saves time but i suppose doing it yourself could make it something to be proud of, provided it turns out alrightCannondale SS Evo Team

I've just had a cool idea to spray the frame green as i said earlier but I thought even that may be slightly plain so i wanted to spray all sorts of different stencils in white that will give it an urban graffiti look. What do you guys think?DMR Trailstar0

I think it will look awful lol.0

Take a look at the Apollo Project.
It was painted in actual ford fiesta green paint.
IIRC we first sanded it down with wet and dry, gave it a good clean, put some primer on it and then painted it with the spraypaint. Finally we laquered over it with a spray laquer.
Total cost was about £60 for everything.

Getting my frame powder coated in the next couple of weeks , place only charges £35 so will work out cheaper and be a quality job .seems really cost effective so I would check if you have any powder coaters near you mate0
