Value my Bike!

I recently built up a bike which was damaged in an accident on it's fourth ride, I am trying to get valuations from online companies as I don't have a decent LBS or any means to get to one at the mo.
Out of interest I would be interested to hear more opinions and invite readers to give a valuation of this bike!
(I posted about this elsewhere but in a different vein and this is not diss the replies there as they were very helpful)

Sorry about the picture quality, these are the best I can send at the moment but I have better ones.
Total weight of finished bike with pedals is about 8kg.
Frameset (unbranded):
Triplebutted 7076 alloy frame
12k Carbon Weave rear seat stay
27.2mm Seatpost
British BB thread
Replacable mech hanger
Only weighs 1380grams (58cm version)
C/W Carbon blade fork with 1 1/8" uncut alloy steerer
C/W Ambrosio Venturi integrated headset
I think it is very similar if not the same as a Brand-X frame I have seen.
Wheels: Kinlin XR240 rims with Novatec hubs built by Harry Rowland, weight of both wheels together about 1.7kg
Chainset: Race Face Cadence 53/39 with external bearing bottom bracket
Cassette: Shimano Ultegra 9 speed 12 - 25
Rear Mech: Shimano 105
Front mech: Shimano Sora
Shift/brake levers: Shimano Sora
Brakes: Tektro R530
Chain: KMC X9
Race Face Ride Road Bars
Pedals: Wellgo Single Cage 964
Tyres: Continental Ultra Sport
Saddle was from a Boardman hybrid

My LBS wanted £35 to value my bike for an insurance claim. It's a joke!
Then again your pictures aren't helping very much...
I have only claimed for one bike but I have hi res photos of the bike in situ
Not thumbnails that could be any bike, show no parts and could be nicked off the web.
From the photos supplied I would be willing to respectfully invoice you for about £50 for wasting my time.
Or more..0 -
Why is that a joke?
If an LBS doesn't charge for it's labour, then it won't last very long.
To do a valuation for insurance would take probably an hour by the time you've inspected the bike and then typed up the component list etc.
£35 for an hour - not all that much really - look at what a plumber charges, or a solicitor if you want to get silly.0 -
Fair enough the pictures are no good, but they are of the finished bike not showing the damage and are the best I have access to as I am not at home and they have been resized by mistake.
They are not what I would send to a shop.
I was after a value as undamaged and pristine to give guidence for a new replacement, not the value in its current condition. Due to the carbon I have been advised the frame should not be reused after a crash.
I have also listed the components fairly throughly. To put it another way, if this was a new bike for sale at a shop based on the description and spec, how much would you expect it to cost?0 -
Here is a better image, managed to upload it from my phone

Aaah, I thought the OP meant replacement value, not what it's worth now...0

Sorry Capt - it was says with a bit of tongue in cheek - I thought you were taking the mick because of your pics.
Marcusjchip - does it take a legal degree and then articled to become a cytech qualified bike mechanic? Is is cytech course a 2 year NVQ then apprenticeship like it is to become a plumber?
Cos I have seen 10 day courses that guarantee you cytech qualification. I don't see any solicitor or plumber courses that accredit you in 10 DAYS!!!
LOL - Get off your high horse, or, bike, maybe?! http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/8/ ... ealed.html
There is no way that you can equate a bike shop salesman, or even a bike mechanic to a solicitor - lol - or even a plumber - unless you are a pro team mechanic.
I hope you are happy in yourself and your profession...go horsey...0 -
I did!
Thanks for the reply. I think the fact that I have an unbranded frame is not going to do me any favours.
Also I would expect a local shop to give a vauation for free as they would hope you would buy the replacement from them maybe0 -
Did mean replacement value I mean, crossed post0

So, just because they can qualify in 10 days, they should give away their labour for free?
Glad to hear you have such a low opinion of bike wrenches. I'm sure they love dealing with people with such little respect for them.0 -
Plumbers and builders will all give quotes for free, even if it means a site visit to inspect the job. Solicitors will quote for work for free, and they charge upwards of £200 an hour!
Having spoken to a bike shop now they will also quote for free and sound happy to do so.
Where I work, in engineering design, we also produce quotes from enquiries and do not charge for it. It's how you get work.
Anyway I'm glad my thread was useful for producing an argument, if nothing ese...0 -
It's not really a quote though is it? It's a service you are expecting them to provide without cost. You might aswell be asking them to fit a cheap component you've sourced yourself for free.
Having said that if you discussed it with the shop, I'm sure they would be happy to knock the fee off any subsequent purchase.0 -
£700-£900 in a shop new0

If you built the bike up yourself, why not do an itemised list of the parts that you brought with a a copy of the invoice and/or receipt as back up and add around £75 for the labour building it up?
This is what my son did, when he had an accident and it's far more relevant than a third party quote provided by a LBS who has no knowledge of some of your parts including your unbranded frame..
The loss adjuster working for the insurance company should have no problem with this approach for your claim.0 -
