Wanted a cheap hack bike, after a few stumbling efforts on eBay, decided to spend a little more and got this, £160 courtesy of Rutlands. Sold as a commuter bike, but it's basically a Maverick 3.0 with a rigid fork and slick tires.
Have changed the tires from the original commuter slicks that came with it, swapped the cheap combo shifters for some Alivios with Avid brake levers and swapped the no name bars and stem for some FSA kit, plus a set of red DMR V8 copies.

Rest of the spec is pretty basic 8 speed Shimano, Suntour cranks and no name wheels, but it's surprising light and is good fun to ride.

  • Well, the keeping it cheap mantra has gone out the window as I've just spent another 95 quid on a set of Tora's for it.
    .
The rigid fork had some tire clearance issues, by the time I'd costed up a decent replacement I thought sod it, may as well spend a few quid more and get some half decent suspension instead.

Quite excited truth be told, the Bikeradar review suggests it's a fun bike with a better fork, so we will see.

  • I used to have an Iron Horse Sachem. That was my first proper mountain bike which I got from Evans for £800. It weighed a ton but could take quite a hammering.
