700c Wheels

Just a quick question, which may require someone to get a tape measure out; my single speed beater would probably benefit from new wheels, and I have long suspected that being an old MTB style bike, it shares some common ancestry with road bikes also. The dropouts are 120mm, but can someone tell me the diameter of a 700c wheel (+/- tyre), in case one might fit. There's about 360mm clearance from axle to brake bridge, if that's any help. Thanks in advance.
