Help me solve the creaking crank!

Hiya,

My crankset is shimano XTR and not long after i got them i started to get some annoying creaking when pedalling hard (uphill or standing up etc). I thought I was just unlucky with my set so i brought some replacement cups (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=38336).

For a short while they were great but after a week or so they are doing it again!

For cleaning I use muc off degrease on my chain, rinse followed by muc off, rinse and then bike spray water disperser/protector. I also usually put some GT85 on the chain/crank area and obviously normal chain lube.

Could one of those be causing the problem.... or something else? I don't want to buy another set only for the same thing to happen again

Thanks a lot

There is a sticky on this website covering creaks.

The two ones to check first for me are

    1: Chainrings TIGHT

2: handle bars on tight (seriously) Cos when you put power through the pedals, what are you pulling against?
Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?

BB is ball bearing I think, I had replaced mine when mine was 'creaking' :P

    It's a cheap job

It wasnt the drivetrain at all, its the suspension pivots. Will have to look at getting them serviced!
