Injuries...

Well, full of the love of my new bike, and feeling like my fitness needs work last night I went for a quick, saddle dropped, town blast... all was well, and the new bike was flawless as ever... but it was not to last...

mucking around down the seafront carpark I decided to ride a bit of trials... I haven't ridden trials for a few weeks as my Trials bike is currently in need of some work...

pop the front up... backhop... good. Pop the front up, flip out on the brake and am unable to unclip (My normal bike has spd's... I really, really shouldn't try to ride trials in spd's....)

a badly swollen shoulder, some nasty bruising and a very sore wrist... plus generally feeling a little crappy...

I hate injuries... this is nothing to nasty... I'll be ok by next week im sure... but it's still flipping annoying... my dad want's me to get a FF helmet after seeing some of the jump's and trails I'm riding recently... and I'm starting to agree... After 4 and a half years of braces the last thing I want now is to lose all my (perfectly straight) teeth...

    FTFY.

That said, when I first got the Coiler, I fitted flats so I could do a bit more "adventureous" stuffs. However I found not being clipped more of a hinderance than riding being "attached" to the bike.

Oh and get well soon Josh.

yep... it was stupid... My onza trials bike has flat's for a very, very good reason. And my "big" bike is not for riding trials for a very, very good reason.... I dont know why I even tried it... it was stupid, and very, very painfull.

Trials isnt that bad on a proper bike.... I'm not amazing... but on my little mod I'm not too bad... getting there anyway... and for all other riding I love my SPD's....

Same here, all the bunnyhopping/wheelie skills of a brick. Am booking myself on a skill course for June locally, more for set up and basics than clever stuff like bunnyhops or drops though, as I am a bit rubbish in general.

SPDs scare me, the thought of being locked onto the bike... I'd break a knee within minutes I'm convinced.

In fact, this would be me no doubt:

I'm sitting here waiting for the car to go to A&E, had a crash yesterday and thought it might heal, it hasn't. Whatever i've done to my shoulder it feels like someones tearing it out when i move it and when i dont its like a really bad dead arm.

:( Hope they get that sorted, really bad trapped nerve or torn muscle maybe?

    OUCH!!

As for trials... try a proper trials bike... an hour or two on one and you'll be amazed what you can do... dont expect to win any comps... but more than any other discipline, the bike does make a HUGE difference...

I'm guessing it's one of these two, i was up until 7:30am trying to find a position i could actually sleep in

Probably have an x-ray just to make sure but im guessing muscle damage.

yep I agree, I don't like the idea of attatching myself to something that I'm not in control of isn't good. I can now bunnyhop my hardtail, albeit with a considerable kickout of the back but my fs just seems to stick to the ground. Drop offs though are still to be gone at properly until I'm happy with my technique
