Well seeing as my 2 mates have posted pics of their bikes I thought I would do the same for my recently finished Cotic Soul.

After deciding that I had to ditch my retro Trek 8000SL for something a little different and a whole lot newer, I was persuaded by my cousin to look at the Cotic Soul frame. I was sold when I looked at Cotics website and read the reviews on the Soul.

So after taking delivery of the frame and all my other components a couple of weeks ago, here is the bike on its maiden run in Epping forest on Saturday. It did not let me down and lived up to all the hype. This is my first attempt at building a bike from scratch!

Spec: Cotic Soul frame, RockShox Revelation XX forks set to 140mm, Hope Pro II Hubs, Mavix XC717 rims, DT Comp Black spokes, Avid X0 disc brakes, Hope Headset, Hope Bottom Bracket, Hope FR 70mm Stem, Easton EA70 riser bars, SDG IBeam seat post, SDG Formula FX saddle, full XT groupset.

Cheers Chris....couldnt possibly reveal the cost incase the missus sees it! lol!
It wasnt cheap, but managed to save a good amount by shopping around for the components.
Its all worth it tho, and very satisfying to spec and build from scratch. :D

Black bars?! That would just be boring Fenred!! :P
  • You know what it really does need though! Red jockey wheels, Red chainring bolts, and red valve caps!! (Red spoke nipps would make it Awesome to the power of Rad! But only bling obsessed peeps like me buy all the spoke nipps and rebuild the wheels with them to be different!!!! - rainbow effect! )
Would finish it off nicely I recon! 8) 8) 8)

All in good time Timmo!
Im planning on getting the token jockey wheels to add a bit of bling, and also the valve caps will be swapped for some red ones.
Will have to seriously consider the red chainring bolts too, its a good suggestion! :D
New flats are needed first tho as the DMR V8's just dont really cut the mustard!

Cheers MingMong, im pleased with it.

Rides really well, nice and balanced. Climbs really well and decends great too.

Ive changed my flats pedals to superstar nano techs an they are great pedals, muchly recommended!!
  • Striking ensemble, liking it.

Looks like the evil twin of my bike (reba XX, Hope pro2/mavic717, monkey bars, albeit I've a cheapo SLX gruppo  )

Excellent idea, they just don't compare! I did the exact same thing on my bike, the nanos are great pedals and awesome VFM. That's a very nice bike you have there!

macca hopefully a simple question, how close do your chainrings run to the chainstay?

i had my bottom bracket fitted without spacers but the chainrings seemed far to close so put one of the nylon spacers in to move them out a little bit. Have you noticed this at all?

Alright Waughie, I sent Cotic the bottom bracket and had them fit it for me when I ordered the frame as this seemed the easiest thing to do.
It has been fitted with one spacer on the chainstay side and this seems to be the perfect distance for the XT kit.
So I would say that if you have 1 spacer fitted then yours will be pretty spot on.

Thanks, i'm glad you said that as I was sure the Cotic website said the frame didn't need the spacer, but it just made no sense when i fitted it!

At least I do actually have it round the right way.
