Hi folks
A question about BB30 - If you have a BB30 bottom bracket do you have to have special chain rings / crank ????
Im wanting to build my own bike so wanting to start gathering bits
was wanting to use Shimano 105 running gear but cant seem to find out if this is compatable
??
Any help advice appreciated
Thanks
Johnny

you need a bb30 crankset, or you can use shims or adaptors to fit non-bb30 parts into it

such as these (you need the bb30 bearings in place)...

...haven't tried them, there are others
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • My Cannondale 6 is all 105 except the chainset which is FSA Gossamer - I understand this is because the 105 chainset is not compatible with BB30 (or at least wasn't)

Shimano don't do a BB30 crank because it's a 'licensed' design owned by Cannondale - they're sticking with BB86 which is an 'open standard' designed for a standard 24mm spindle.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Ok fellas thanks for the help advice

Cannondale made BB30 'open' for anyone who wants to make use of it. Shimano decided not to.
