A bit of something different.

I needed something for commuting to work and back 34mile round trip, this involves approx 8-9miles of trail work and running through Wharncliffe Woods and the rest of the journey is on the road.

The Frame is a 2006 Kona Caldera which was bought 2nd hand and I spent a few months buying parts ready to build it.

The spec as follows

Before the build I also used a Clay bar to clean all the tar off the paint work then treated it to an AutoGlym SRP and AutoGlym SG then cleaned the wheels & hubs using the Clay bar and sealed the wheels using PoorBoys wheel sealant. Should make it a little easier to clean.

2006 Kona Caldera 18" Frame
XT Front Mech
XT Rear Mech
Deore BB & Chainset
Deore Shifters
HG53 Chain & HG50 Cassette 11-32 (Taken from my Cube)
XT Hubs with WTB Rims
Deore Hydrolic Brakes with 180/160mm front & rear
Easton Monkey Bars
FSA Stem
Cane Creek Headset
Rockshox Recon Silver TK
Schwalbe 26x1.90 Black Jacks
Slime Inner Tubes

Pre lights and tag-a-long trailer bracket it weighs 28lb :D

And a few pics

I’m really happy with the build and have cycled to work a couple of times now, it’s exactly what I was wanting and I have the satisfaction of knowing I’ve built it myself.

  • Fair-dos, that's a hell of a commute there!

    Nice looking bike there too.

It is, luckily I work shifts so only cycle in 2days a week and I drive on the night shifts.

When everything is bedded in and I'm 100% happy I might get the frame resprayed as it's a little chipped being 2nd hand.

The bike that got me back into biking; mine was 17" - makes me all nostalgic :D

Really shouldn't have sold it - like what you've done with that :D
I hate it when people say David Beckham's stupid...its not like anyone ever says: 'Stephen Hawking - he's s**t at football.' Paul Calf

After my last couple of outings with my youngest son on his tag-a-long I've decided I needed a little more stopping power so have upgraded the front rotor to a 180mm Simano RT64 disc.
  • The Kona frame was sold in August after covering approx 500miles since the build in April.

It was used to fund a new set of seats in my car. I've kept all the components and will be on the look out for another frame around xmas/new year ready for next years commuting
