I have a XT Dyna-Sys 3x10 (42/32/24 - 11/36 casette.) that I'd like to convert to 2x10.
40 & 26 looks like the optimum gearing for my needs but I'd like some user input on which rings to buy, FRM, Blackspire other OEM etc.

you could trying to much with 26-40. what front mech have you got?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I reckon that'll be fine! TA Chinook rings get my vote.0

I'd recommend going 26/38 given your cassette spread, but that doesn't take into account the terrain you ride. I run 2x9 on Middleburn Hardcoat Slickshift rings, longevity and shifting is great. Totally recommended!0

Deore XT, it's a XT 10 speed groupset Nick.
FRM supply 40-26 in a conversion kit, do you think that's too much of a jump ?njee20 wrote:I reckon that'll be fine! TA Chinook rings get my vote.
TA Chinook list their rings as "compatible with 8/9 Speed" I assume they can be used with 10 speed ?0 -
Yep they'll be fine.
Doubles are often 14t jumps, 28/42, 22/36 etc, so the mech shouldn't be a problem. I've never had problems with a similar jump.0 -
Are you guys sure that a standard 10 spd triple front mech will have the ability to shift that many teeth?
For example an SLX Double and bash comes with a 22 36 , but I was under the impression that you need to use either a SLX double or Saint double front mech with that particular chainset.
The reason I am asking is I was considering doing the same with 24 - 38 rings but was concerned about compatibility issues with my existing XT (triple dynasys) front mech.
Your saying it should be fine and I wouldn't necessarily need to fit a 10 speed ring, a 9 speed would do the job?0 -
