New rims?

Had my first crash on my new bike. Straight over the handlebars, stopped on my face. Got some manly wounds from it.

However, I've managed to totally bugger up the front wheel. It was initially so bent out of shape it was catching against the forks. I've had it trued to the point where it can be ridden and there's only a slight visible wobble, but the rim is apparently dented.

Is this something that can be repaired? If not, what do I need to look for in a replacement? The current rims are Ritchey DS Pro, which I've heard are decent-ish (relatively speaking) so I need something of at least comparable quality. Any recommendations?

You can't repair a dented-rim - depends on whether it impacts on braking or you have a flat-spot. Easiest solution is a direct replacement, otherwise you may have to change spokes or other complications. Speak to your LBS about options.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

+1 for replacement. Get the same rim if you can.

Got a new wheel. Couldn't get the same rim anywhere, and the only 20 hole rim I could find was £50. With the cost of the wheel building on top it made more sense just to buy the whole wheel. It must have been fate that I was going to smack my stupid face on the ground because someone was selling a brand new front wheel exactly the same as mine for £70 on ebay.

Bloody expensive first trip out on the bike though. Need a new helmet as well.

Blimey, that is bad luck. What happened? Pot hole?

The good news is that the law of averages suggests that your next 327.3* rides will be without major incident.

Something very stupid is what happened. Got a fly or a bee or something in my glasses buzzing right up against my eye, spazzed out, used one hand to slap at my face and slammed the brake on with the other. At which point I swerved into the person riding next to me (instead of the other way into a grass verge) and their foot got caught in my front wheel, then over I went. My own fault for not reacting sensibly and just coming to a stop.

I was informed by the people riding behind us that it was quite impressive to watch. The woman in the car coming towards us looked shocked though.
