try and ride it up a hill.!!
I've had a road bike for a year now but living in Norfolk there haven't been too many occasions I've managed to ride it up anything bigger than a molehill.
So I was on the road at 6.30 this morning and drove to Hathersage in Derbyshire.
Road Mam Nick n Winnats Pass within the first 90 mins just to prove to myself I could go up a hill then just followed my nose.
Fantastic, what a great day to be alive, sunshine and stunning scenery.
Total ride time was just under 5 hours, 66 miles and about 'a squillion' feet of climbing!
Yee-hah.
Made me realise the pro's are god like creatures and one persons average speed in a flat area has no bearing whatsoever on another persons in a hilly area.
Keep smiling and keep riding happy!!

Congrats on your success and fun in the hills and I agree on your points: was a great day to be out riding and the pros are god like creatures for what they are able to do in any terrain.0

Plenty of big hills in Norfolk, you've just got to know where to look!!0

Really, where do I need to be looking for these big hills?
With regard to Mam Nick and Winnatts Pass can someone depress me and tell me they're not proper hills and wouldn't even feature as 4th cat climbs as far as the pro's are concerned!!0 -
Don't suppose any of you have seen this...
Note that this isn't me cycling it's some elite guy
It's erm crazily fast and then look at the climbing etc!0 -

The problem with British races is that these types of climbs usually appear many miles before the end of a stage so the minute or so time gaps they create are easily chased down.
Anyhow, glad you enyoyed your ride. Sounds like a great day.
Fwiw, I did the exact opposite on Friday, took the day off work and blasted a more or less pan flat 45 miles to Southport and back as opposed to my usual hill rides.
TT starts this week and unlike last year, I don't want to ride my first one having done no flat miles at all.0
