Or is it?

Good value, but hiking the price up to a ridiculous £450 first before they half unfortunately will fool some people in thinking they are getting a 450 quid bike.

Halfords have some good kit at decent prices but they need to stop bullsh*tting with their fake sales.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

Just like every Autumn lights go up by 30% about twenty eight days before the clocks go back.

Just like every Autumn the boxed headlights go on a BOGOFF.

Just like every month one backed booster seat is half price (at rrp) whilst another is price establishing.

Just like the half price audio that was £149 is the model down from the one at £99.99.

Just like every year the price of Apollos jump to something bordering offensive in readiness for 1/3rd off around Autumn half term.

    It's called 'marketing'.......

SS praises Halfords bikes, not Halfords......Halfords are not all bad, but like any big 'corporate' company they are not all good either, imagine how much leverage Halfords put on all bike prices (sub circa £1200) in the UK, if Halfords shut tomorrow we'd all be paying about 10-15% more for every bike IMO.

My boss asked me today if i was willing to sell my Carrera Vulcan as he wants a bike to get fit on and knows it's a little to big for me so decided to have a quick look on ebay to get an idea of what they are going for and found this gem of an ad

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/carrera-mountain- ... 41588340ba

Mine cost £400 brand new before they reduced them too £300 so god knows where he's found those figures from :?
What if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? What if to get to heaven, you had to brave hell? What if everything you've ever wanted cost you everything you've ever achieved? Would you still go there?

Now i'm not one of these people who slag the staff off at Halfords because i realise it isn't a real bike shop but today i nipped into one of my local stores (won't name it) and saw a woman i know coming out with her new £80 Trax ridged. I stopped for a little chat and something didn't quite look right with how the bike looked but couldn't put my finger on it then it dawned on me, they had built the bike up but the forks were backwards

halfords don't build trax anymore, haven't since the 5th. they are sold boxed at a cheaper price to compete with argos/tesco/etc BSO's, with a build offered for £20.

also, the price engineering in halfords is going to get less rampant.

That is sad to hear - I can see that Tesco etc cannot build them, but Halfords specifically said a couple of years back, after pressure from other bike retailers, that they would not charge to PDI bikes (they were going to charge it for all bikes).

So the cheapest bikes, that need the PDI more than ever as are bastards to build, will be poorly assembled now by the public at large.

I see they have the Carrera Vengeance Limited Edition Mountain Bike half price now. Is this a better buy for a novice MTB-er than something like a Specialized Hardrock sport disc?

I'd say so. Better drivetrain and kit for the money.
