I've ordered a Storck Scenero bike of the year edition and have just been told that due to equipment delays by DT that some of the bikes are coming into the country with Mavic Aksium wheels instead. Are these really a similar spec, or should I hold out for the original R1800s?

I have Aksium Race wheels on my training bike and would expect something a bit better on my full race bike.... :?

Cheers
Richard

They weren't specific, they only said that some orders had R1800s and they were sourcing Aksiums for the others if that was ok with the bike shops. If you don't already have an order with a set of R1800s and you want to hold out for them then they wont get the R1800s into Germany until 20th April.....

Are you sure it's Aksium and not Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheelset?

The Aksiums seem a bit low spec for a Scenerio or have I got the wrong end of the saddle?

Yup Aksiums. Cycling plus said the R1800s were "good, but not great" (or something similar in the bike of the year review)and I want to make sure that the Aksiums are in the same league. I can easily find a price on the Aksiums, but the R1800s are a lot harder to find retail.

The cheapest Aksiums are only £140, but dealers will pay well under that, which doesn't seem right for a "Bike of the Year" model. As you said, I can't see a price for R1800 at the moment.

I'd be tempted to negotiate for a better wheelset altogether and make sure the tears in your eyes drip over the paperwork. Play it right and you could get a superb deal if you're willing to pay a hundred quid more

The 1800's are just over 200 Euros from Rose.

Thanks bobgfish. I've had a word with my dealer (Rock and Road) who are being really helpful and they are going to see what they can do. I have a race on the 24th April, so hopefully it will be sorted by then......
