Scott or Ridgeway

I'm beginning commuting on the cheap (started on an old MTB lying in the garage) and am going to buy something with a bit more quality second hand.
2 I have been offered is a Ridgeway gents tourer (couple of years old, rarely used) and a Scott MTB (a few years old, recently had new tyres/tubes/brake lines).
Thats as much as I know at this time.
Both are around the same price, what would you go with?

I'd veer away from a MTB (too heavy, probably suspension) for commuting, so Ridgeway it is.FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future
FCN 4: Planet X Schmaffenschmack 2- workhorse
FCN 9: B Twin Vitamin - winter commuter/loan bike for trainees
I'm hungry. I'm always hungry!0 -
Decision made (ridgeway), got it today, ready to go in the morning.
Thanks for that.Astra F on bio
