I'd like to change my shifters but not sure how it works? I'm currently running on Shimano deore triggers which came stock on my Rockhopper but I'm not happy with them any more.
What can I change to?
Is there a lot to changing shifters?
Is this something I can do myself following instruction or co I gonna ruin my bike?!!

Just for info I broke my wrist last year and am just back on my bike. I'm struggling with these triggers and due to size and shape and brake levers I can't move them to a more comfortable position.

Easy to do, remove the cables and unscrew them. But the only alternative is gripshifters.
Or do you have combined gear/brake pods? If not you can move the brakes inboard of the shifters.

I've tried the shifters on either side of the levers but no joy. In my opinion the shifter and lever just don't sit well together. If I lower my lever to get a good line from shoulder to finger tip the shifter is in the wrong position. I'm hoping to find a better match for the lever. I'm just wondering if 'any' trigger will fit with cable etc?
And thanks for the advice mate!

Most Shimano ones will be similar but you could try Sram named shifters (not numbered ones) as they just use thumbs.

Just make sure they are named (Rocket or Attack)

Just been looking at a set of x9 on ebay for 26 quid (at the moment!). Seems cheap.

Just realised what you said about numbered ones .....

Named work with Shimano, numbered only work with Sram dérailleurs.
This only applies to the rear. Either front will work with either brand front mech.
So depends on which hand it is, I'm assuming the right one.
Just make sure you get the right speed as well.

Pair at Wooly Hat Shop - good guys and under £30. Decent deal.

Forgive my stupidity (no matter how extreme you consider it after this question) but will one of those be 3 speed for the front cog? It just says 9 speed.
