Hi,

I bent my rear mech hanger, getting a replacement seems slow so I took the rear end apart and banged it against a flat brick with a hammer, anyone else tried this? Will it work, it looks good when back on the frame, I don't want to both putting it all back together if its not likely to be successful.

Advice/experience anyone?

Thanks

Tried it, sometimes it works, but will be weakened and bend easier. Depends on the degree of bend to start off with.
I carry a straightened one as a spare.

You'll know if it's worked if the gears index properly.

  • Buy another hanger and keep it in your bag. Carry on using your straightened one till it fails, then swap them and throw the broken one in the nearest hedge, :)

Except you would never be a d1ck and just throw bits of bike into the countryside, would you?

  • also be careful, if it shatters or snaps and the mech goes into the wheel youll do more damage than just replacing it now

that might be just a problem on cheapo bikes, but when i worked at halfords it happened every so often and did alot of damage.
