Mr Whyte designs the Marins. Or did.

Is certainly where it all started. Jon Whyte, ex F1 suspension guru. I believe that Marin then created the Whyte identity as a bit of a "boutique" brand to run alongside Marin and that the Whyte team (based in the Cotswolds somewhere) still design the Marin FS bikes.

I may be wrong, but I don't think Whyte as a company have ever had anything to do with Marin. After J. Whyte left Marin as a designer he set up his own company. Whyte now have a different designer who's revamped the line for 2011, while keeping the same basic suspension design.

ATB Sales Ltd. owns Whyte Bikes and has it's own R&D and is also the distributor for Marin but also by contract designs their bikes.

Ian Alexander works for ATB Sales

Hmm... I've always been under the impression that Whyte designed the single pivot frames, then the following adjustable TARA, and quad links after that. The TARA and quads came out on Whyte frames before Marins I think so they may have been the test bed. He set up Whyte to showcase the Preston front fork which was too radical for Marin to use in their bikes. Much of this has been corrupted with time and may also be beer induced.
