Shorts Suggestions?

After a commuting all through winter it's finally time (well a few weeks ago) to crack out the shorts again.
For commuting I'm not a fan of the lycra look and as such wear Endura Hummvee's with lycra underneath. However, I find these a bit too baggy in the leg department.
Can anyone suggest a nice short, that can be worn with lyrca underneath that is relatively slim fitting?
oh.....and as cheap as possible. I'm thinking nothing over £25-£30.
I've seen these....

and these....

on amazon. I have to admit to being tempted by the Jeantex. For a tenner??????
But can I live with myself for wearing what is essentially beige? Is this the first step to cycling sandals?

If there is a Decathlon near you, they do baggy shorts with a removable padded liner. They are aimed at MTB riders and are dirt cheap at £2.59. Got a couple of pairs myself.
If I have to do a few miles when wearing civvies, I sometimes wear the liner instead of boxer shorts and the shorts don't look ridiculous off the bike either.FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future

IMO you can't beat Surface liquistretch shorts.
Cost is a little higher but I've done several thousand miles in mine and they are holding up nicely. Water resistant & more than happy to wear them down the pub, you can't tell they are cycling shorts. If I don't need a million pockets, I wear these every time over my humvees, in-fact I own 2 pairs.

decathlon here too but a pair of plain lycra shorts with a pair of their running 3/4's over the top costs ~£20 in total
the running shorts are spot on for riding in, loose enough to move but not at all flappy as they're tapered more than MTB shorts are. hey also look absolutely fine as a wandering round the park or to the pub short
Its a much lighter and far more comfy combo than hummvees (barely wear mine anymore) andthe running shorts have 2 front pockets deep enough to safely stash a mobile, wallet and keys without discomfort0 -
cheers peeps. No decathlon that close to me but you have put the idea of just wearing normal shorts over the top of my lycra ones.
Got loads of football / running shorts at home so will have a look. Don't know why this didn't cross my mind really!!!!FCN : 8

I wear Dickies shorts when I'm mountain biking, take a while to wear in but very tough and will last you a long time.0

I always buy cheap boardshort type things at the end of each summer, and use them, got 3 pairs last year for around £20, spent the rest on a decent pair of inners which you can just wear under all of them. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle

Edit: Making the assumption you've got access to a car.
I'm in Oldham and can easily get to the Stockport one, its off the Pyramid roundabout, just beyond the VW dealers. Taking the south and west route from the M61 it can't be more than 15 minutes once you get onto the M61 & 60 or the same going straight down the M66 & M60 from Simister Island if you're on the Bury side of Bolton0 -
yeah i wear padded lycra under gym shorts! if you get the colour combination right it looks cool! hehehe0
