Hi all, 2 quick questions:
Do SRAM shifters work with Shimano rear derailleurs? (X9 twist and XTR derailleurs specifically)

The other questions is help regarding my SRAM X9 rear derailleur. if I change into the biggest cog or second biggestsometimes. I cannot change to a higher gear. i either have to bounce the rear wheel or get off and move it. Once released it will work fine for a while (till i change down again!)

Is it a flaw in the X9 derailleur, a cable stickiness problem or something else.

Any suggestions?

    no.

    Only sram named shifters.

sounds like set up issues or incorrect usage,

Just remember that shimano and sram have differant pull ratios for the cable which means they are incompatible as far as i am aware...
  • with the x.9 could be a spring tension issue. i sent mine back to chain reaction (who sent it to fishers) and they sent me a new 1. havent had a problem since.

Its not setup or incorrect usage, the X9 is reknowned for getting 'stuck', the pivots get clogged up or stuck as the plastic rivets grind and the spring tension just cant force it past, usually a good lubing of some sort followed by lots of moving it manually back and forth soon sorts it out for a good while.

I'll get round to replacing it one day...

and that issue seems to have been on the small cogs only. not the big cogs.

I and many others have had it on any cog, usually its just the smallest cog it wont change down too.

However its completely seized on me a couple of times in the middle of nowhere.

Cheers for suggestions will look at cables and lubricants.

also thanks for help about the derailleur, did fancy the XTR derailleur but LOVE the twist shifters.

Everyone raved about the X9, so this always annoys me when it happens!

You can still use gripshifters with shimano rear deralirs. You just need to get a SRAM named one as opposed to a numbered one. ;)
