Afternoon all

After just having an encounter with an utter freakin' bell end, I now have to repair my shorts - a hole half the size of a 5p in the leg, v small hole alongside.

Does anyone know a good way to do this? Patch? Sew with elastic thread? A N Other? Weep?

Any help very gratefully received as the shorts are only a week old. Sod's law?

Ps: I hate twattts who think they are Paris Hilton who drive on their phones oblivious to the 6'2 guy dressed like a freakin' clown riding at 30 mph down a completely straight, dry, sunny road as they pull out straight in front of you.

PPs: my leg hurts.

Good job you clarified where the hole was...

Seriously, what make, some do crash repairs. I've sent a pair away for a customer and you couldn't tell they'd been damaged.

And love n hugs for the leg.

Bog stock team rep Nalini (Chianti Classico) - if i had managed to get some decent wear out of them I wouldn't mind but as it is I'm miffed.

Do you offhand if Nalini do a repair service a la wonderful Assos?

if there is no repair service then patches will do they job but they don't look too great!

I've used them a lot for fixing lycra undershorts (not cycling shorts but the type of things you wear under your shorts for rugby) Iron mend are the best i've tried so far, its designed to patch up neoprene wet suits, sticks really well and is flexable with the material. Expensive though!

Yossie, no repair service I'm afraid, we bought direct from Italy. If you contact me in about 6 weeks I'll cut you a deal on the new kit.

Thankyou very much for your help - I've double checked and they are actually Santini - any difference do you think?

Again, thankyou very much for your time: I may well be in contact for the new kit once I manage to hide some money from the wife!

Ollieda: do you know offhand where I can find some of these patches? I presume that I can use them on the inside of the shorts so they don't look too ridiculous?
  • Just sew some swimming distance patches on or something. ;)

You may joke, but that was actually a thought, I'm just not sure what happens when you stitch through lycra - will it pull and tear the material surrounding as as your leg moves about in it? Otherwise it's no biggie really, just sew a black patch on the inside, cross stitch across the area that is torn on top.

    Any haberdashery specialists on here?

I found the cheapest was ebay, try http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/McNett-Iron-Mend-Neoprene-Repair-Kit-Wet-Drysuits-/200592148622?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Wetsuits_WatersportsClothing_CA&hash=item2eb439488e When I last brought it it was around £6 / £7 but now looks like it's gone up, prehaps try googling it to see if normal shops will do it cheaper, or if you live anywhere near a watersports shop its always worth checking if they have it or a different brand.

You could place it on the inside, I would just make sure its not on a part thats likely to move, not sure what the friction would be like on skin, should be fine though. You do need to close the hole up whilst you apply the patch otherwise the glue will just stick to whatever is on the otherside of the hole (most likely to be your ironing board!)
