Specialized allez sizing

I'm looking for a second hand road bike and quite fancy a specialized allez (the elite looks good). My problem is sizing. Looking on the Specialized website, I see the 58cm frame has a seat tube of 550mm and a top tube of 580mm or thereabouts. This would be ideal since it is the same dimensions as the old Scott Sub 30 that I have now.
However, I've just looked at a 58cm allez which has the usual frame size sticker on the seat tube. The sticker declares the frame to be a 58cm (XL), but shows a seat tube of 58cm.
Which one is correct, the Specialized factory sticker, or the Specialized website sizing chart?
I'm confused. Any ideas?
TIA

Stu
PS Anyone selling an Allez Elite?

  • Ok I may be selling my 2010 elite to fund a Tarmac
I'm 6'2 and my 58 is great but would guess is good for 5'11 to 6'3

Is it a 2011 bike you saw in the shop? the geometry has changed from the 2010 models. I'd guess that the website refers to the 2011 range only.

There is also a 61cm version of the bike that might be called an XL and that has a 58cm seat tube so perhaps that's what you were looking at in the shop?
  • I had a 61 allez that fitted but was just that bit too much (xxl)
