My first road bike

I am after my first road bike and have seen two within my budget of £500 - £600.
They are;

GT GTR Series 5 201 £599.99

Specialized Allez 16 2011 £559.99

What do people think of the choices, I really am going into this blind! lol

    Get a 2010 Allez for £399 Still a few places selling at that price.

    Really not a lot in it between those two bikes.

    Think of this purchase as a stepping stone towards getting a much nicer road bike in the future. Purchase either one of the above bikes and ride as much as you can. After a while, you'll get used to the overall feel of a road bike and have a better idea of what to look for on future test rides.

    With that in mind, I'd say that the Allez will probably have a better resale value. The shifters on the GT will be easier to use but the ones on the Allez are of better quality. And I notice that neither bike has a compact chainset.

    Also, both bikes will benefit immeasurably from a simple tyre upgrade.

    Thanks for the advice! I'm a bit of a spesh fan boy when it comes to mountain bikes so I may stick with the brand. I thought there might not be much in it just wasn't sure on the quality of each brand.
