How many people here use Twitter?

I use it *quite* a lot for my day job and I was thinking of adding a cycling column to my Tweedeck.

So if you post cycling related updates, or recommend some people who do post them here and I'll follow back :)

Unless you have lots of useful stuff to say in your day job (like news reports) or your doing some events (like tweeting updates on a race) I don't really see the point in twitter. Someone I know had their house robbed shortly after tweeting that he and all his housemates were spending the day down at the lido, not sure if the burglary was a reaction to his tweet but if so then serves him right!

I don't twit and fail to see the point.

This site seems to sum it up quite well.
Twatter is a service for twats who think other people give a fuck about the small twattish, mundane detail of their sad, socially impotent lives or who simply believe that what they have to say should be spread across the globe because they want to be a major fucking twat - all by asking the 'simple' question: What the fuck are you doing?

I tihnk twiter for many people has moved on from just saying what you've done today to disseminating information, gossip, organise people etc.

That quote above is sooo 2009.

Use it to get information such as rugby score updates etc. I wouldn't accept anyone as a follower as they would be a bit sad to follow what I was up to and never tweet myself.

That's pretty spot-on. In my industry - digital marketing it's the fastest way of staying in contact, keeping ahead of industry news, getting feedback and getting coverage opportunities for my clients.

I also see it being used extensively in journalism, news, design, fashion and retail as well as brands using it as a B2C communications channel.

I also like using it to follow events and sportsmen that I like. People complaining that posts are irrelevant and uninteresting only have themselves to blame, they chose to follow those people.

I also like to think that I'm *fairly* interesting and post some relevant stuff for other marketers. :)

As a method of quickly and efficiently spreading information to a large number interested parties, there's really nothing better. That's what I use it for (on behalf of my hockey club - live updates of the Welsh Cup final, this Saturday @Cardiff_Hockey, folks), but I wouldn't use it for saying anything about me personally.

It's popular until the next thing comes along. It's really just a publicity tool but useful for organising demos etc and getting headlines out now. But if it vanished overnight I don't think we'd miss it. Surprised Freehub is against it as it's his age group that uses it and can see the value/potential in it

just use it to follow a few people - good for when I am bored and got reception. So don't use it often

I wonder how many of you were saying exactly the same things about mobile phones, texting, email, and internet forums years ago? I have no interest in it myself, but it's massive success puts it a fair way beyond the reach of childish scorn. Perhaps you'd have a different opinion if you were an Iranian or Egyptian dissident

Got a couple of accounts, one is full of interesting people, but I've got out of the habit of looking at it. Will probably pick it up again during the tour.

The other I use when watching sport on the telly, like a global chatroom type thing, which it's good for imo.

I find facebook far worse for updating the world with useless crap! The silly photos (usually of their kids, of which I don't give a crap about), status updates, arguments, wall posts which people do drive me insane. I deleted my account ages ago, and it's the best thing i ever did. There is not one thing I miss from it.

As for twitter, never used it. I'm so retro! I know a few people who follow sports stars etc though and they seem to enjoy it. I'm usually behind on sport and don't get chance to watch it live, so I stay away as I don't want some sausage telling me the score of a game before i've seen it.

great for organizing events with big groups where texting becomes annoying, and finding local events/activities.

Never really understood the hate, if you don't like it don't use it - simple!

I didn't think Matt was being particularly serious even the first time he was being quoted in this exact reply.

    Keep up.

Some people are dead set against things like twitter because they think it makes them look highbrow and discerning. The opposite is true. But don't bother trying to tell someone like this that that is the case. They either cannot, or will refuse to understand.
