Loose Cassette

I have fitted a new SRAM PG970 cassette to the Shimano M475 rear hub on my Trance. There seems to be a little play in the cassette, the locking ring is nice & tight & I didn't notice any play in the free hub. The original cassette was a PG950 so I guess there shouldn't be any compatibility problems with SRAM cassette on a Shimano hub.
Unfortunately I put the old cassette in the recycling bin (badly worn with broken teeth) so can't put it back on to see if that had any play.
Does anyone have any ideas? It shifts nicely enough but the creaking noise could get annoying.

included all the spacers,"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Yes. I guess if there were any missing it wouldn't shift through the gears properly?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

then something else is wrong. take lock ring off and see if the cassette is prod or not of the body.
and check the spacer is there. between 8 and 7 IIRC."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I took the cassette off & there seems to be some play in the free hub. Can I replace/service the free hub or will I need a new hub?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

new body. might be cheaper to buy a new hub from CRC and use it to service the bearings as well."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
