Hi.

Finally got my CAAD10 arriving this week, and was wondering whether people had any experience and views as to whether 'biketape' or 'bikeshield' performs better than the other?

and where it's worth putting it? so far i thought:

on top of the crossbar as general protection from knocks
underside of downtube to protect from debris from the front tyre - extend under BB??
back of the seattube, to protect from debris from the back tyre
on top of driveside chainstay to protect from chain-slap

is is also worth running it round inside the forks? or on the leading edge of the fork?

i'd appreciate anyone's views on this, as it's the first time i've considered using this tape stuff.

Thanks

You do need a chain stay protector and I would put it on the frame where cables rub. Other than that - I'd not bother.
  • Yep agree with above. Both work well (had one instance of bike shield working too well), latest helicopter tape is much better than it used to be, cheaper and easier to cut.

Its the same stuff IME - Bikeshield just comes in fancy packaging - Helicopter Tape off ebay is the best. It shows as a 'dirty' edge on white / light colours and tends to hold dirt more that the bare finish. It can be fiddly - you need a warm room and clean, clear surfaces to get the best finish. Stick to the tube profiles and exposed areas only - compound curves are tricky and end up messy IME.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
