I have always used white spirit to clean my chain and cassette. Purpose made bike chain degreasers cost way more.. I was wondering if they have anything to recommend them over white spirit?

The add 10p of chemicals in and charge 10 times as much.
Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?

white spirit is OK for chain and cassette stuff like that... but a bad idea for your brakes... it contains oil's...

TBH it's very rarely necessary, hot soapy water and a brush is usually all thats needed for cleaning you DT
    I like bikes and stuff

Or, just leaving brakes alone. Don't bother cleaning them unless you've got oil or degreaser on them.
  • I've just recently started using white spirit to clean my chain and cassette. Must say i'm very impressed with the results compared to Muc-Off.

Don't clean them unless they need cleaning is obvious to some, but as a forum good job pointing it out.
