so im thinking of getting a new set of training wheels, but ideally ones which will be able to cope with an occasional race and sportive. on a budget so dont want to spend too much.
have been looking around and whereas there are pretty good deals going on shimano rs models, and mavic aksiums, most of the user reviews seem to praise planet x model b's above all others.

so was wondering just how good are they? would they suit my needs? are they better value for money than others in similar price range?

:)

my two penneth good wheels for the dough but freehub was like cheese, maybe they have improved the metal quality now. Flogged mine.

nothing to do with the 'metal quality' - any aluminium freehub body will be the same...

They are good, but would recommend oiling the spoke nipples every so often. If not, they tend to corrode.

No spokes on mine have corroded, no freewheel has been chewed up either.

Best value wheels around the 100 quid mark, simple as that. Quiet, smooth and free rolling ...

Mine are 2 years old now, running on my winter bike, not a single problem, still in excellent condition, can't fault them 8)

+1 nothing to do with metal quality and to add further its an issue with any alu freehub body and a SHITMANO 10 speed cassette its well documented, I have some model B's and when researching came across this argument and the many posts correcting ones like the above.

    Very light for the money.

They seem excellent value for money. Light, solid enough. look pretty good too. But I wouldn't agree with them being all that quiet.

Twice as loud as my Campag sciroccos. Put it this way I know when my GF is freewheeling even if shes dropped way back from me.

You've obviously never heard Ksyrium SLs then!
  • I've had 3 pairs that have been sold on various bikes over the years and i think they cant be beat for under £250.
    Great wheels

Just commenting on the freehub my mates cassette got affixed to his freehub as the cassette carved its way into the freehub splines. Was a tough job to remove. Getting a new freehub from PX proved futile. Yes good wheels but with reservation build is appropriate for pricepoint imo.
