Handlebar 4 bolt Clamp

I'm having a struggle torqing up the 4 bolts on the bars equally after adjusting my bars.

I have tried tweaking them up diagonally bit by bit (like a car wheel) but its not working. I end up with uneven torque in the bolts.

Any tips appreciated...

Richie

the trick is to apply an amount of torque (either by feel or with a torque wrench) to each bolt in turn, like you have been doing, but keep on going round and round until none of the bolts move any more.

Just bolt them up evenly by hand.

thats what i have been doing but when they are all tight (not overtight) the clamp looks uneven, ie the gaps bigger at one side or other, or top to bottom is out.

    can't understand it.

AH. Sounds like youre torquing one up, THEN moving to another one.
Start off by slowly screwing the bolts in turn or two each, going round and round the bolts in diagonals until the clamp is starting to tighten.
    THEN start torquing.
  • like he said, sounds like when people change car wheels, they get the bolts first tightened up then go around.

first get the bolts into the threads all equal then slowly tighten one by one rather than trying to get one semi tight before moving onto next
