    Doh!!

Last time I was there, they had signs up saying ALL the woodwork was coming down for insurance reasons. Has anything Happened there recently?

Hope you get your wrist sorted, could be a nasty way of keeping you off the bike for the entire summer

all the wood stuff has been taken down, or smashed up so it cant be ridden. the ladder drops have gone too.

they're supposed to be rebuilding the drop out of dirt and putting in a pump track on top of the hill.

utterly gutted. I think I got the last weekend before it was taken down as the run up to the shore, and the big berm had been torn down, but with a bit of 'rebuilding' it was all do-able 8)
Managed to get a vid of riding it too which will be a nice final memory of the 'sands.

"Shore" is coming down all over the place sadly.

If only we had the ability to accept all risk ourselves, but even if you were to sign something like that, some EU law would override it and allow you to sue the owners when you break your neck.

    Get well soon.

I too had a big accident a couple of years back, broke my neck and ripped my head open and was literally saved by passers by. Still to this day never found the 3 or 4 people that stopped and called the paramedics but am very great full.

Always good to know that there are still good people left in the world.

It's a shame trails have to be ripped down because people aren't responsible enough to look after themselves. If you're not capable of riding something, don't ride it, and if you do mess up, take responsibility for yourself, nobody made you ride it.

@ the OP, hope you recover soon, I'd hate to be off the bike for that long!

I'm begining to think the EU is a royal dick, enforcing votes for prisoners when the general population is actually against it, reducing legislation that acts as a barrier to migrants marrying for a visa to stay in this country (acording to Panorama)... and something else they did recently to piss me off. They seem to have no real ground experience with the issues they are legislating.

Eh, what's this got to do with the EU?

And I'm not against votes for prisoners, if someone in prison for three weeks happens to be behind bars while the election is taking place, they should still be allowed to vote, exactly the same as someone who was jailed for 4 years would be if they were released a few days before the election, it's totally arbitrary, that's the problem.[/divert]

A crudcatcher drift here I think...

And to carry on with said crud comments; there are loads of laws that are all encompasing and are not compassionate to individual circumstances. I wou;dn't waste tax payers money on analysing individual sentencing to decide if they had the right to vote - short term jail time leading to missed voting opportunity = unfortunate timing.

And does the Eu have any say on putting in antilitigation clauses for places like 'Sands?

    I don't know.

Deadkenny and your good self mentioned the EU, I'm just wondering what you're talking about!

to be fair, most of the time I don't know myself. I just get louder when people look befuddeled...
Trying to decide if centralised legislation eminating from the A-hole of the EU is to blame for the stripping of Chicsands woodwork...

It's surely the EU's fault, closely followed by the banks, then America, and coming up from the rear; bacon Nazis.

It's probably Chicksands themselves, because people keep chucking themselves off it face (or wrist) first!

Anyway, GWS to the OP, hope it's a straightforward recovery and you're back on the bike soon.

Cripes, if fetching medical help when somebody is injured qualifies as doing good, rather than doing the obvious thing...

I mean, can anyone honestly say that if they rode past an injured rider they'd say, "Love to help, but I'm busy riding my bike. If you're not dead by the time I've finished, had a shower and beans on toast, I'll call an ambulance. By the way, that was a nice bike 'till you got all that blood on it."

It's not always about bikers. How many people have you seen on a night out led down being sick, or blood all down their tops? Do you jump at the chance to run over and help them? I doubt it.

So yes it is nice there are some decent souls in the world we live in when it seems more and more like the majority would of been happy to just have the bike away and the guys wallet for the hassle.

But yes sarcastic useless comments are helpful

surprisingly, this time, it has nothing to do with the EU. it was the insurance company who said it had to come down

    Fair point.

I've heard people rant about people who are "noobs" to particular courses, jumps, trails, etc, both on the bike and on skis, saying they shouldn't be on there if they don't have the skills, but how should they get the skills?

Had that once myself trying to learn snowboarding. Came a cropper on a beginner slope and bumped into someone's kid whilst going at a snails pace. The parent had a right go about I shouldn't be on the slope if I don't have the skills. It was a bloody beginner slope!! (kid was fine by the way, total over reaction by the parent).

But on the other hand if clearly the thing is way beyond your skills, and you should be trying something simpler first, or you're jumping without having checked out the landing first, then obviously it's a bit reckless.

Exactly. My 'stupid' accident this year was on a fire road riding between trails. Stopped concentrating, hit a root or something (don't remember), landed on head, knocked out, paramedics called.
So maybe I should avoid fire roads and stick to singletrack?

the first question i asked the 2 young lads who came over was ' is my bike alright!?!'

thankfully it looks ok but i need to give it a closer inspection.

i was jumping in the freeride area. done that jump a fair few times but took it attoo much speed. not used to going that high and i over rotated landing badly............ experience is what you need to get yourself out of that and can only be gained by pushing yourself.

thanks for the good luck. seeing the specialist tomo
  • no gore pictures :(

hope it heals up fast, and the bike isnt damaged.

im 99.9% sure most people care more about bike sinse at least if you break a bone the NHS covers you for free.....break the bike, it going to cost you.......wish there was a NHS service for bikes
