Broken ergo lever

Something's broken in my right hand ergo lever - the spring and possibly some washer bits which make the downshift lever spring back to its normal position. Looking at the Campag diagram of the bits in an ergolever, I think it's probably not something I'd want to take apart myself.
Has anyone stripped down an ergolever and put it back together - if so is it tricky? Could I get a replacement for the broken bit anyway?
Is it worth taking it to the LBS? Should I bite the bullet and buy new ones?
