Wheel advice again

I use my steed for club rides, sportives & the odd time trial. Need new wheels - I've read 100s of posts about this & decided (I think).

Upgrading from Mavic CPX22 rims with specialized hubs (2kg+). From trawling the forums have decided on either:

Shimano RS20 (1775g) £123
Mavic Aksium (1800g) £140

Question is will I notice any difference over my current wheels? I'm 75-80kg.

Was decided on planet x model B (1653g) £129 - LBS said they are very flexy if fatter than 65kg.

This wouldn't be the same LBS trying to sell you the wheels would it? 8)

Yes, you'll notice the difference with lighter wheels. But not a huge difference.

My Planet X Model B's are less flexy than my Aksiums - I can make the Aksiums rub on brake blocks out of the saddle climbing. Can't do so with the Model B's...

Planet-X do a model C, it's a B with a few more spokes and I think it's the same price. Frankly I'd try the Model-Bs, I fancy a set myself for my tourer. If you don't like them you'll easily sell them on ebay. The RS10/20/30 are poor value in comparison.

Maybe ask Planet-X if you'd be OK on the B's or need the C's.

I'd also keep my eyes open for a used set of Ksyrium Elites. I run Pro-Lite Braccianos on the "nice" bike and at 10.5 stone I have no probs with flexing. Great wheels, but the bearings on the Mavics are better.

I went from 2kg -> 1.5 kg wheels and it was by far the best money I've spent on the bike. Big difference.

No the shop sponsors the club. Although I was amused by the prices they quoted!

Would I really notice 200g or should I just leave my banana at home?

    Cheers for the reply pokerface

I think the theory is that weight at the wheels is felt more than anywhere else.

So yes - you'll notice 200g. Probably most in acceleration. Again - not a HUGE difference but a difference nonetheless.

Try a pair of Pro-Lite Braccianos. Read all the on-line reviews and bought from Ribble at £190. They are a lot more expensive at Chain Reaction and others. There is normally a waiting time to get these wheels from most shops as are they are very popular. I am very pleased with the wheels.

Thanks for all the advice people

After two LBS saying to go for Shimano RS20s, I've bought some Planet X model Bs.

Rake - I can't afford a haircut I spent it all on the wheels!

I'll let you know how I get on....

    Cheers 8)
