odd bottom bracket

Hi all

I have recently had a 456 built from the parts on my 2007 cindercone. It has been suffering from a bit of chain suck which needs sorting. I doubt it is The cause but my bb needs replacing due to wear and tear. does anyone know what type I would need to repace it with?  it is not an isis, the one I have is a FSA Power Drive Bottom Bracket http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=22377  Not sure what standard it is?  The guy at the LBS did say it was an unusual one.

Is it worth the expense to upgrade to hollowtech?  Im guessing that would mean upgrading crank, front mech and chainrings too?  or change for a half decent isis bb and crank?

it is a power drive fitting and nothing else. So that is what you need.

I have looked into it abit more. looks like replacing cassette and chain would also be necessary if chainging chainset. Would the following setup be ok? Why does replacing a bb end up being replacing half of the bike

There's no need to replace the chain and cassette unless they are worn.

They are worn. Not un usable but not great.

If you're thinking about doing that, why not take advantage of the groupset offer:

I'm not saying that it's necessary. It's just a really good price on the groupset, if you can find a home for the superfluous v-brakes that come with it. The mechs and shifters are exceptional quality for the money.

Re-opening this thread, as I have a 2009 Kone Cindercone that also has the FSA Powerdrive BB, and I think needs replacing ... I started to look into this and found this thread.

The current BB is a 73mm FSA PD but all the usual places have them listed as discontinued or OOS (CRC/JE James to name a couple)

Since the original thread doesn't seem to have reached a satisfactory conclusion I've tagged on the end ...

The question is do I:
(a) search for an in stock FSA PD BB
(b) identify a suitable FSA upgrade/current equivalent
(c) identify a non-FSA equivalent (what is the implications/consequences of this?)

My general feeling about that is I'm likely to end up paying over the odds if its a special order from FSA? I have found before that if the likes of CRC aren't stocking an item I can expect to pay more than for a comparable product.

I appreciate your assistance, any thoughts on (b) and (c) from my posting?

EDIT: also any knowledge on whether I need a special tool for removing/re-installing this BB?

Could you buy the new crankset, install the BB and cranks, but swap the rings from the old one to the new one. Then there's no need to change the cassette and chain?
