Just wanted to say that my new Specialized Secteur had its first outing this morning! My first time on a road bike, since I had a Raleigh 'racer' twenty years ago - and all went well.

It was instantly comfortable, and 'on the hoods' came very naturally. I even allowed myself to get onto the drops for a while! Gearshifting using the brake levers was okay and I only once went for the non-existent brakes on the the top bar once!!

I was expecting more of a culture shock going from MTB to road bike, but am pleasantly surprised - Its just like riding a bike!!

My next challenge is to get clipless pedals...how difficult can they be??!! (I've read many mentions on this forum - hence me starting with flat pedals!! )

  • Nice one samartin.....i'm genuinely envious. After nearly 15 years out of the saddle myself, I am looking forward to picking up my Specialised Allez later this week. I chuckled when I read the bit on your post about changing gear on the top bar :)
Let us know how you get on with 'clip-ons' as I've never used them but have ordered same for my bike. Beginning to think I should have the Band Aids on standby!

Just get the pedals they make a big difference, Shimano do a set which has one side flat and the other side is for clipping in. Hope it helps.
