How Long Should a Chamois Last?

Folks,

The last few long rides I have done have been with my shorts on (I know, ever the optimist). However, my asre has been killing me which hasn't really been a problem to date (I use Assos chamois cream and have spent up to 8 hours in the saddle, etc.).

Wearing my Endura thermal bib tights it is fine...but then it was always fine with my shorts last year.

So, the only thing I can think of is that the chamois is a bit 'tired' and not keeping the bumps out (every bump at the moment feels truly dreadful but there is no chaffing). The shorts still look great (Altura Progel bibs) and they are a good fit. They have done about 3,000 miles. So, is it time for me to look for some new shorts or could the problem lie elsewhere (I am thinking of dropping some PSI but 100/90 for 66kg seems reasonable)?

Any ideas gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

Well if you go over the exact same ride wearing your bib tights and it doesn't hurt then everything else being equal it will prove that it is your shorts. 3000 miles doesn't sound an awful lot but weeky, or bi-weekly dips in the washing machine, especially on a higher temperature wash will soon degrade the pad. My Giordana Tenax bib shorts lasted little more than a year before the pad 'spread out' and are now relegated to shorter rides only.
