Best Tyres for 25 mile commute

Using Boardman Hybrid Comp to commute 25 miles per day, Maxxis Detonator tyres (700x28) are the stock tyres but are very puncture prone. I have changed to Continental City Rides (700x32 80psi) but find that these produce a load more rolling resistance and slow me down (but no punctures) Any suggestions for a tyre that is both punture resistant and can be run at high pressures (100-120psi) to help reduce rolling resistance.

I've been very happy with Continental Gatorskins (x25 and x28), run at 100psi and cope very well with the poorly-maintained, gravel-strewn roads round here.

I was looking at those. They seem to get very good reviews. I was also looking at the Conti Ultra Race x25 as well.

I use schwalbe marathons with slime inner tubes. You could go back to your original tyres with slimes maybe.

I'm 400 miles into my pair, no punctures so far and going strong.

36 miles a day though the mean streets of olde London Towne: Conti Gatorskins. Only 1 flat so far this year

For bombproof tyres you cannot beat marathon plus.

Conti gator skins ae good ( i use them ) but they are not as good as marathons, i have to ride on a glass strewn cycle path twice a day ( or face a 3 lane roundabout with lane switchers at peak times ) and if i do not pull chunks out regularly i will get a flat .

Spent a good hour or more yesterday checking gators for shards + superglueing cuts.

Back in the day I used to use Armadillo's, bullet proof and although a bit of a tough ride, more than acceptable for my old 45 mile round commute.

I've never got on with Continentals, 3 punctures in two days when I bought some Gatorskins, but I know a lot of people swear by them. I've just had my first ride with the Michelin Krylions, a bit like the Armadillos really and pump up to 116psi.

    Groundhog Day!

We were up to 3.4 trillion matches for 'commuting tyres' last time I checked.

Well OK, there are currently 22 matches, but only because the forum broke in Feb and searches don't retrieve older threads. A look through the thread titles in this forum should unearth plenty for starters.

Bear in mind that too high a pressure can be counter-productive. Take a look at this PDF from michelin for recommended pressures.

If you want tough I'd suggest Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase. Available in 700x23/25/28/32.

If you use your commuting as training then you should run the slowest, heaviest tyres you can find (at half the recommended pressure), carry a big rucksack, wear too many layers and a jacket that acts like a sail and batter yourself to death. You might be slow but by god you'll be fit!
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.

specialised armidilos, cant remember which ones, 26" and 1.5" wide i think? nimbus maybe?! i would google them but i'm a bit lazy for all that!!

they have treated me very well!! i do about 25 miles a day to and over 1,000 miles in and no punctures as yet (i'm touching wood, cause i can almost guess what is going to happen on my way home now!!) and no real signs of any wear yet either!

They're pretty tough, yes, but not that hard wearing and a bit skittish at times.

I had Bonty hard case and they are nearly twice as heavy as Conti GP 4 seasons and got more punctures - much cheaper though!

Thanks for all of your advice guys. I have decided to go back to the Maxxis tyres but with slime tubes - I averaged a p*&cture a day before but nothing so far this week. Managed my fastest time home today as well so very chuffed.
