Play in Centrelock Rotors

Hi there, got my new bike today, very impressed with the build but have one slight concern.
The Brakes are shimano m575 hydros with a 180mm front rotor and 160mm rear. The rear is completely fine, but the front seems to have a little play in it. This is a front/back play not side to side and is no more than 0.5-1mm but when the brakes are on this translates to about 1-1.5cm at the wheel edge.
I can completely live with this, but dont want to let it go ignored then 3 months down the line have a ruined rotor or even worse, hub.
So can anyone tell me if this is normal? if so does it go away? if not normal, what should I do about it, if anything?
for reference the bike is a 2010 Saracen Zen 3 and the hub is an SLX 20mm thru axle jobbie.
Cheers guys.

where is the play?
on the splines or on the rivets?
make sure the lock ring is tight as well."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Pretty sure this is a common fault and is a warranty job.
When I was doing work experience in the LBS they had a whole box of rotors that had done exactly what you describe from Shimano 575's0 -
A quick test tells me that the play is with the centrelock mechanism, not the rivets. The lockring is as tight as I can get it. When I get back from work I'll try rotating the rotor in relation to the hub, see if there is a point at which it aligns or something.
If this fails who do you advise I contact? The shop it was bought from is an e-tailer in scotland so a walk-in is out of the question, and it'd seem silly to return a perfectly good bike to replace a rotor. So hopefully wouldnt be via them.0 -
You always should contact the retiler, your contract of sale is with them.0

Thats normal
i have had quite a few different shimano centre lock hubs with slight play in the spline
you notice it if you hold the front brake on and shake the bike forward and backwards like your checking for headset play
there will not be any damage caused as there is only force ever on one side of the spline when braking
i never saw any marks on the splines of the disc or hub .0 -
Hmm, no play on mine. Are you sure its tightened properly? No idea off the top of my head what the torque should be, but I'm sure mine's gorilla tight.0

There meant to be 40nm which is just under 30lbft
i did mine upto 50nm which is a fraction under 37lbft and there is still play
it fractional and nothing to worry about as i said
you wouldnt notice unless you grab a handfull of brake and force the bike back and fourth which is forces that it doesnt have under any riding .0 -
What paul20v said. Tiny bit in mine, fraction of an inch, which translates to maybe an eighth of an inch at the rim. Don't notice it when riding at all, but noticeable if you look for it.
My solution - don't look for it.I don't do smileys.

I figure it wont affect braking performance in any case, i just didnt want to have the disc or hub shear off in the coming months due to excessive wear, chip becoming a crack and all that mullarkey.
Just noticed it when I was "kicking the tyres", as it were, the pre-first-ride once over. Cheers for the advice. Guess I'll just get out there and give it a run in, aint gonna break if I dont ride it now is it!0
