New Bike Query

Hello
I was hoping some of you could give me a bit of information/advice. I'm looking to buy a new hardtail downhill/trail bike somewhere in the price range £500-£1000. I used to ride a Specialized Rockhopper, but at £700 the latest model seems slightly overpriced; basically I'm not sure you're getting quite as much bike for the money, and I've heard some mixed reviews. The Revolution Triad 1.0 '11 (by a small company from Edinburgh) has caught my eye; it looks like a great bike for the price (£800), but, having never ridden a Revolution before, I know next to nothing about it. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on either of these bikes, perhaps by way of a comparison, and let me know if my opinions on the Rockhopper are correct.
I'd also be grateful if you could point out any other similar bikes in this price range that I might have overlooked.
Cheers
Sandy

The Edinburgh bikes have a good rep, including the revolution (though I've no experience), the Boardmans sound like they may be a bit to XC racy for your usage, but you could look at the Voodoo Hoodoo or Carrera Fury, both at Halfords as they sound about what your looking for and both are well in Budget.

Thanks, Simon.
The Carrera Fury looks like a great bike (I've never ridden one), but I would be able to spend a little more; I always feel it's slightly better to overspend on a new bike than underspend. Possibly a slightly reckless philosophy, but I'd rather have more bike than I need than be left feeling I could have gotten a little bit more. I may be wrong, though - as I say, I've never ridden a Fury.
I don't know anything about the Hoodoo, but I see there's a review for the Bokor; it looks pretty good - how does the Hoodoo compare?
Although, I think I'll probably go to one of my nearby independent bike stores rather than Halfords. Nothing against Halfords, but I live within walking distance of three or four great bike shops - it would be crazy not to use what's on my doorstep!
I've heard nothing but good things about the Revolution, and buying a bike that's totally new and different is quite appealing. I guess I'm just a bit worried about taking the plunge with a bike I know nothing about; you can only learn so much from trying before you buy,0
