So i thought i'd start a little project for those who may be interested in the progress of a budget bike build... I say budget, what i mean is a build built mostly of second hand parts.

I used to have a trek Fuel 90, and had a project thread, and this is where many of these parts have come from. However there are significant differences, and im unsure of just how much has lasted!

the reason i upgraded was that i'm a Trail Cycle Leader aspiring to be a Mountain Bike Leader and so i needed a proper mountain bike, opposed to a more race-y bike.

So; my Trek Fuel EX-Custom. A work in progress, with a few bits coming this following week.

Keep an eye out!

And my home made neoguard!

Spec to follow!

Was wondering when I was gonna see this again. Good to know you got a good ride built out of it mate.

Bloody excellent ride it is as well! had it up at a place called brechfa and rode a few bridleways above the place, absolutly bombs through the rough stuff just like any dh bike could but its so much more fun on the uphill and it turns like a beauty!

Trek certainly did something right here!

I'm awaiting some new bits and pieces but although not a £5000 super build i'd say this is pretty as near to perfect as a bike can be for me. Just waiting on some lock on grips and some new brake pads from superstar and she should be ready for a long summer.

    Spec:

    Frame: Trek Fuel EX Aluminium
    Forks: Raceface Deus riser
    Stem: Truvativ AKA 80mm
    Headset: FSA ABP taper (integrated)
    Grips: Cheap Kona grips.
    Bar Ends: None.

    Front Brakeset: Shimano XT M765
    Front disc: Avid 185mm
    Rear Brakeset: Shimano XT M765
    Rear Disc: Avid 160mm

    Shifters: Shimano SLX dual-shift.
    Front Mech: Shimano Deore XT
    Rear Mech: Shimano Deore XT

    Seat: WTB Laser V
    Seat Post: FSA SL280
    Seat Post Clamp: Hope clamp

    Chainset: Shimano XT Hollowtech II
    Pedals: Shimano M520 SPD's
    Bottom Bracket: Integrated thing...

Wheels: Mavic Crossrides 26" QR axle
    Tube: Dr Sludge self sealing
    Tire: Schwalbe Nobby Nic's

    Weight: 13.26kg or 29.23lb's

Future Upgrades will likely be wheels first as they are the main thing holding the bike back now and perhaps where the biggest weight saving can be made, however this bike is deisgned to haul my ass up and down any terrain with a group of young cyclists in tow so it has to be function over form - this is something i reckon it does very well to date!

There is no rough stuff at brechfa... so a rigid would probably feel like a Dh bike...

    Very nice though... enjoy it!
