Stockton Cycle Festival and Sportive......

This looks like an interesting Event for riders in the North East, details can be found through this link, with a further link to include route maps, etc.

I'll be doing the long one if I can get the day off, reduced fee for early entry too.........

It looks like a tough 90 mile with 8300ft of climbing. WOW only £15 if booking early. As Stockton is only 40 minutes away, I'm in!

Features: Secure Online Entry, GPS mapping, Breakdown Service, Broom Wagon, Three Fully Arrowed Routes, Under British Cycling Guidelines, Electronic Timing, 8301 ft of Climbing (long route), Feed Stations and First Aid.

Found out about this ride yesterday, watching the progress regarding entrants, i think it's been open for 2 weeks but only one entrant to date. Looks a good ride and gives me a chance to attempt the chimney before the 'Rumble' - and as posted above it's pretty local, so probably will do it.

OK, I've just entered the 90 mile route. Not having done Rosedale Chimney before, this is going to be a hard one looking at the route profile.

The entries are still £15 until tomorrow night if anyone is still interested. This might be my cheapest sportive of the year as it's only a 30 mile drive away

Anyone know where the feed stations are on the 95 mile route? I've looked at the route but no mention of the places. I cannot plan my water intake until I know how many and how far - :x

  • Doing the 95 myself, Ive riden some of the route before and its pretty tough, particularly if the wind or weathers bad which it usually is up there. Climbed the chimney last year but on my MTB so managed to spin all the way up. Its very, very steep in one middle section (struggled to keep the front down at one point) but was surprisingly shorter than expected. Bit like Carlton Bank in Cleveland for those that know it but steeper and shorter. May want to bring your wellies though as it looks like it may be a wet one :)

It's shorter than carlton bank? I thought carlton bank was short for a hill, though do you count before the cattle grid as the climb?
Doing this event too, no idea whether i'll make it to the end or not.

  • Probably around the same length, maybe a bit shorter than Carlton, starting from the cattle grid but a lot steeper. Compare them both here, will probably feel a lot longer 60 odd miles in mind! :)

That was a lot harder than expected! Downpours for most of it too.
Anyone else find those decents a bit tricky?

  • yeh the sheer amount of big climbs took me by surprise. I stopped counting after the firstt 30 miles. The weather from start to finish especially over the moors was hideous too. I was in a dark place at one point :D

  • Likewise, the final climb into Kildale after Westerdale was the kick in the nuts for me. Cant wait for next year! :D
