What a mess. There doesn't look like there's anything but wreckage inside the 4 reactor buildings.

  • I've been kind of out of touch with the news recently. What has happened so far now. Have any of the reactors actually melted down? Is there a serious threat of Radiation now?

I was watching the news earlier, and saw that in Germany they have signed contracts to end nuclear use there, but only saw the brief thing saying that, didn't catch the article, or anything else in the past few weeks.

It is pretty obvious some of the fuel rod casings have melted and fission material has leaked from the primary and secondary vessels. Oterwise they wouldn't be measuring the iodine and other nuclides that they have. How much is hard to say, but it has been detected at great distances. Miniscule amounts mind, but onsite I think things are pretty dire.

Unless there is a fire or huge explosion, the heavy contamination should remain onsite.

Yes the news of Japan has been overshadowed by some local skirmish in a sandy place.

The potential degradation to the worlds' health is taking second spot to some short term squable over some oil rich desert lands

Ah well I suppose Bomb explosions are always going to have better TV appeal to the masses until the invisible radiation frys them and thier offspring have two heads.
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!
