I am doing the lakeland loop this weekend. Due to illness, my training for this has not been as I had expected. I am probably going to change my pedals and use my MTB shoes. I know some of you will shudder when you see a Madone 5.2 with these shoes, but being realistic I will prbably have to get off and push and I don't see any point in trashing a pair of good cycling shoes for a bit of vanity.

  • I used M520 spds with Wiggle dhb1's for ages until getting some road shoes and speedplays.

imagine having to push your bike home several miles.
A dozen steps uphill would be enough to convince most sensible people.

Pick the tool for the job: SPDs for MTB, touring, commuting and allrounding, SPD-SL/Look/Speedplay etc for road racing, and vanity (which is really insecurity as you have to follow a bunch of made-up rules).

@Teach - just turn the pedals and enjoy the pleasure of riding your lovely bike. Those who judge you don't deserve you.

@MaxwellBygraves - You do realise that website is a p1ss-take for the easily led, don't you? Anyway, etiquette was created by rich people to make poor people feel inferior. But it ain't working here.

You should only wear road shoes if you also shave your legs.
