XTR brakes with post mount fox forks?

Hi, I am at a technical crossroads and any help would be much appreciated......

I ordered a set of XTR brakes from Merlin as they were dramatically reduced to work on my bike. I have also just bought some 2011 Fox float forks (which are post mount). After ordering the brakes I noticed that it states on Merlin in bold - THESE WILL NOT WORK WITH POST MOUNT FORKS

this seemed pretty clear to me so I assumed that I'd have to return them. On receiving the brakes (which look great!), I cannot see why the supplied IS adapter can't be removed and then attach the brakes directly to the forks using the bolts from my previous brakes.

Is this possible/wise to try? I don't want to experiment because this would make the brakes unreturnable.

You say just do it but if it doesn't work that's 170 quid down the swanny. The disc rotor is 160mm.

Yeah but you're not likely to destroy them just by mounting them and seeing how it looks.

Give it a shot, see how they get on. Could possibly work, but if not, not much of a loss as can just return them.

should work fine with a 180mm rotor. Not so sure about 160mm.

    got a link to them.

as post mount they should just go straight on with a 160mm disc.

Thanks guys for great advice as usual - I will try tomorrow (no light in my shed!) and fingers crossed it will work. Cheers.

The XTR IS brakes (160mm) won't work with a PM fork, as (unlike avid) they don't rely on an adapter. You would have to up the size of the front disc to 180mm and by an IS caliper to PM adapter from A2Z.....

You can't just stick them straight on a PM fork.

The only reason I know this is because I did it.

Although it appears that it doesn't fit on some forks (e.g. some Rockshox) perhaps because the 'posts' aren't long enough to move the mount far enough away from the body of the fork..[/quote]

if the brakes are as you said in your OP then they are post with adaptor. remove adaptor and fit.

    again Link?

I'm guessing they are the M975 set.. they were reduced to around £180 a little while back..

Oh sorry I I didn't notice your request for a link to the brakes -

    http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop ... KE-SET.htm

The brakes were £180 with the 'gold membership' merlin offer. They are lovely looking brakes in the flesh and I really hope they fit.

so they are IS mount. ring Clee cycles and see if they have a post to IS mount 160 adaptor in stock. if they do not then you will need a post to 180mm adaptor and and a 180mm disc.
