The time has come to ditch the shimano r500s from my Kuota Kharma and give it the wheels it rightly deserves.

I'm looking to spend £400 give or take. Completely baffled by choice.

Can i go wrong with some Ksyrium elites?
Also looking at Reynolds solitudes and some (what seem like) bargains on Planet X - DT swiss hubs and rims rrp £699 selling for £399.
Have read great reviews about pro=lites but seem hard to find.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Where are you in the UK?

How about a pair of Fulcrum racing zero's used for 2-4h per week from June to October 2010 (inc a run up Tourmalet) for the same price??

Wild card so inspection suggested but happy to supply pics if required

Im desperately trying to justify a new bike so am having a clear out :)

EDIT: Inc skewers and wheel bags
  • Hi,

Like the sound of this offer - i'm very interested.

I live in Merseyside but happy to travel around North West.

Feel free to pm any pics/extra info etc if you have them to hand.

    Thanks

I instantly upgraded the wheel on my Kharma once I got it last summer.

    Some things to think about.

What kind of riding do you do?

    What weight are you?

The road conditions where you live/ you generally ride on?

    Is it bling you want?

I'm quite light for my size but live in an area where the roads look like Sarajevo in the early 90's. I ride road race and sportives and like routes with climbs. I opted for a wheelset that was handbuilt by by local wheel builder. He does a lovely DRC/CXR italian rim (looks semi areo) on DT Spokes and chose Hope Hubs. They arent as light as say Dura Ace or Even the mid range Mavics but roll beautifully. I can't flex them, they are great for climbing and have yet to have a spoke go after 100's of miles.

Or else something hand built and really light from Wheelsmith

the ambrosio zenith hubs built onto ambrosio excellight rims with sapim cx-ray spokes from wheelsmith looks a very good choice, slightly over the £400 but they will be a good weight and will last ages ,should look good too aswell as being easy to service if anything goes wrong (try getting factory wheel spares quick). ive heard differing reports on the ambrosio zeniths but ive used them with no trouble at all.

The IRD rims from Wheelsmith are a good choice as well. They're very light and very strong
