hi guys,
i started mountain biking last year...mainly in Swinley Forest / local trails and i have treated myself to a Forerunner 405CX HRM & GPS watch.
Is anyone else using one?
if so any tips / things i should be aware of?
thx lars

I've had one for about 9 months now and not a single issue. I spent sometime setting it up, as in, adding my weight and height into the computer / garmin website. Nice and easy to use, all you need to do is customise your screens.
I always lock the bezzel before setting off as it's quite sensative and can jump into a menu.0 -
been for a first cycle on the local lanes this evening to test it out...
i am impressed with it...easy to use and did not loose satellite signal at all.
here are the details of the run:

I've got the 405 (not cx - what's the difference?) with HRM. Am considering getting the speed sensor / cadence sensor as it costs the same as a wireless bike computer.
I spent last summer tooing and froing from work on my commute chasing my virtual partner.
I run with it mostly; I'm trying to get the hang of training with a heart rate monitor - if you've got the HRM strap make it an early objective to get close to maximum hr. There's no point using a calculated value IMO.
I've spent some time configuring the screen for running (there is a cycling mode so you can have different screen configurations for that). I did a 1/2 marathon last weekend and had screen 2 telling me my projected time for the current mile, heart rate and lap time. Screen one was total time and total distance. And the virtual partner was running at 9.15 pace (that's a 2 hour 1/2). (Romped home in 1.49 )
So what I'm saying is... you need to decide how you're going to configure it to match whatever you're training for.

i think the main diff between 405 vs 405cx is that the cx come with heart rate sensor on a strap...
anyway, just checked out your run...looks good...
thx lars0 -

The CX has a better calorie algorithm that takes into account HR. Friend has just moved from 405 to 405CX and is getting much lower (60% of previous) calorie figures. That said, he's very fit so his HR is normally lower than your average Joe Blow for the same pace.
I use the 305 which is great for the money and has a better GPS battery life than the 405 and a bigger screen with the option for 4 items displayed at one time which is why I use it.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
