Hello people, this is my first post on here so here goes with a quick question.
Has anyone bought a new bike from Dave Hinde and how do you rate their products and service?

This seems a bit unusual - we haven't had this for a while but normally it's a first time poster telling us all how wonderful DH is.
Is this a more subtle attempt or a genuine query?0 -
To save a lot of people getting agitated I suggest using the search function on here to see how people feel about Dave Hinde. Some people have had ok experiences but many have not and feel very strongly about not using the company again.0
-
Its a genuine enquiry. Since I got recommended them from another forum I thought I'd ask on a different forum about them. I did a search on Hinde on this site and the forum but ouldn't really find much out. Perhaps I haven't got used to the search function yet and shoul keep trying but IME on most forums the search is usually useless unless you are used to its vaguaries.
Is it the service that is dodgy or the bikes? I can cope with dodgy service if I ended up with a good bike.0 -
in short, DH has a terrible reputationFacts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0

My personal experience - avoid at all costs.
I'll stick to the facts rather than opinion - I bought something off him and it ended up in a successful paypal fraud claim against the ebay arm of his shop to get most of the money back for goods he was paid for and simply refused to send.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -
the search is having issues at the moment but have a read

let's hope it stays true then....Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0

There are probably countless others, but I'm sure you get the gist of DH by now, enjoy!0 -
yes indeed... But as it's a front wheel I am not to concern... I got a stand and know how to fix wheels... I struggle a bit when it comes to build rear wheels but front ones are simple as there is no dish...
I had a wheel built by Putney cycles last November before I went to Taiwan... and just after a ride 6 spokes went loose... I fix that the best I could and bring it back... they true it for free but after another ride one spoke came loose again... i think they just don't put enough tension or use too much oil or what ever... Since I true it myself I have no more issue...
Anyway that's the good thing of hand built wheels... You can service them easily... and they are cheaper!0 -

No1 google response is the David Hinde website.
No2 is the first forum thread complaining about why he hasn't been shut down.
Personally I havn't bought from them but then, I don't intend to for exactly that reason.0 -
I bump on their web page by pure hazard while looking for a front campagnolo record wheel... I guess I have been lucky but don't feel I will take my chance again...0
-
Avoid would be my advice0
-
Why bother, there are so many companies out there who have a good rep and decent customer service, so why chance it with them?
Sure, it probably would be okay, but why bother when there are a million other shops?"That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -
To be fair I've had a wheel off him and it was fine. I've seen a few riders out on the bikes and they're happy but say that he's a "character".
But as you say plenty of options out there.0 -
Out riding with a bloke the other day with one of his bikes and he hasn't had any cause to go back to him with any problems, just luck I guess .....0
