Shimano ultegra 6700 wheelset

I have been looking at upgrading my wheels for a while i currently have Alex 3 rims which came standard. Are the ultegra 6700 any good? i can get them for £250 when the rrp is £389 surely they are worth the money with that discount?
My wheels are currently 30mm deep these are only 24mm i was led to believe the deeper the better i take it this information is incorrect...
i will be using the wheels as clinchers and for general weekend rides and sportives.
