right now that i have gotten your attention, some of you may know that i recently splashed out on a spanking new Tricross.

This said Tricross came with awful tyres (Specialized Borough CX Sport, 700x32c) i was running Marathon Plus's on my mtb an i wanna put Marathons on my tricross but i dont know which width to go for?

im use to 26" tyre sizes all of this 28, 32, 35 or 40 doesnt mean a thing to me

anyone?

theres a cookie in it for the best answer

I've got 28s on my hybrid. I don't see why you'd want to wider tyres unless you were carrying loads in your panniers or were navigating bad roads...

It depends on the kind of surfaces you're running on. I'm out on country lanes and prefer a bit of comfort, so have 28c Conti Top contacts (running at 100psi).

These are also fine for light trail as well, but I have the 32c for rougher terrain and the 35s (treaded) for proper Winter riding

Do you use your tricross off road?

If not then look at Schwalbe Durano (Standard, Plus and S) instead. Like Marathons but slick.

The width number is just the width in mm; I son't see why you would need anything wider than a 28mm and in most cases I'd go for a 25 (don't think marathons come in a 23mm).

i use it a bit on road and on a (tarmacced) glass strewn cycle path

are the 700c version harder to get on than the 26"

25.4mm to an inch. So your 1.35" MTB tyres should be about the same as a 35mm. I'd go thinner. I think your about right with the 28s. Do I get a cookie?

    Nice Cookie!

Actually it would be cool if someone did a poll on which tyres everyone was using. I'm close to having to replace my Gatorskins (very good, and only one puncture so far, just slowly getting full of glass) and would be interested to try out some others.

I run 25mm Conti Gator skins on my tricross, no bother at all.
Have 28mm Snickers Plus for the ultimate protection as well.

    Top CX tips:

Conti speedkings are made of tissue paper and have no grip in mud but fly over tarmac and hard packed fire roads, they also look cool = expensive.

Schwalbe CX comp look even cooler but have thin side walls, grip like a good-n in the mud however roll slower all round = cheap.

Both in my opinion should only be run with tyre liners underneath else much time will be spent at the PF pleasure.

^ And Vittoria Cross tyres are pretty bad puncture wise but grip reasonably well off road.
