Now, I'm sure this is possible to do, but I ran out of patience with this last night.

Following a bit of a scrape on Saturday that resulted in a smashed rear mech hanger and necesary chain removal, I need to put the chain back on.

And I'm struggling to do this fidly job with my multi tool. Having never done this before I wanted to ask:

1. are there any tricks or tips for making this easier?

2. is it worth investing in a proper chain tool rather than fiddling about with a multi tool?

Not sure why you need a chain tool at all? No chain tool needed to replace a damaged rear mech hanger.

As for putting the chain back on - SRAM powerlink!

had to remove the chain on saturday so I could freewheel back to civilsation.

SRAM powerlink looks like a bloody good idea. Thanks

    OK fair enough.

I always use a powerlink, in fact I use 2 placed one inner link apart (so just loosing one whole link free's me up a powerlink) and carry a spare as well, can never have too many powerlinks!

Won't the power link only work with certain chains? Didnt think they worked with shimano. Don't they use a split pin? Not assuming he has a shimano chain but if a chain splitter was used to remove it...

They work with any chain the same size.

SRAM powerlink works with any chain.
Multitools cannot replace chains. They're not long or flexible enough, let alone being the wrong shape

What chain is it? Shimano ones have a special joining pin.
